Historic home gets an energy upgrade
Home Energy Savings
Christina Guzman has been a resident of Detroit’s historic Hubbard Farms neighborhood for many years. She owns a duplex there, and her parents live on the other side of the house.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to make my home more energy efficient. The BetterBuildings for Michigan team was friendly, polite and very efficient, and they worked hard to fix all of the air leakage in my home.
The change in the way my house feels is incredible! I am already saving energy and money, and the time I spent was definitely worth it.”

Because it is a historic home, the walls, doors and ducts had gaps, making it feel drafty and uncomfortable. Air leakage in her home caused her living room to be very drafty, especially in the winter. She had also had high energy bills, but had not yet addressed the air leaks because she thought that getting new insulation would be very expensive.
During Christina’s first appointment, an energy team from BetterBuildings for Michigan went to work on Christina’s home. They started with a blower door test, which helped them pinpoint where the biggest air leaks were coming from.
They were able to seal some of the major air leaks and reduce the total air flow in the house by 8% in just a few hours!
